Becoming a foster family in Alberta means offering a caring, temporary home to a child or youth who needs one. As part of getting approved, caregivers are required to complete first-aid and CPR training and provide the certificate to their agency.

急救要求

In Alberta, foster caregivers approved under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act must complete first-aid training with CPR (Level C) from a recognized organization and submit the certificate to their Child and Family Services authority or delegated agency. It builds the ability to respond to common emergencies — injuries, choking, cardiac arrest — for adults, children and infants.

The certificate is verified by the fostering authority or agency handling your approval and is part of the required caregiver training. It is one requirement in addition to the home assessment and the evaluation of your parenting suitability, and must be renewed to stay current.

First-aid training includes recognizing and managing severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), including the use of an epinephrine auto-injector.
