Online first aid courses

Alberta workplaces fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (SA 2020, c. O-2.2) and OHS Code Part 11 with Schedule 2, which set the number and level of designated first-aiders from a matrix of hazard level, workers per shift and distance to medical care — one first-aider required from two workers up, rising with headcount, hazard and remoteness.

Alberta's Early Learning and Child Care Regulation (Alta Reg 143/2008, Schedule 1, s.25) requires at least one in every two primary staff members to hold first-aid certification acceptable to the statutory director, with at least one certified staff member on duty at all times.

Alberta's Emergency Medical Aid Act (RSA 2000, c. E-7) protects physicians, nurses and anyone who voluntarily renders emergency aid at the immediate scene of an accident from liability unless injury is caused by gross negligence, and there is no legal duty to rescue.

Alberta nurses (regulated by CRNA and CLPNA) and physicians (CPSA) must keep skills current through an annual Continuing Competence Program under the Health Professions Act, and in hospital and continuing-care settings a current BLS or CPR certificate is generally an employer requirement rather than a licensing condition.

Alberta supportive-living accommodations and continuing-care homes, regulated under the Continuing Care Act and staffed by Health Care Aides, generally require CPR and first-aid certification set by the program and employer rather than a single statute.

In Alberta, foster caregivers approved under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act must complete first-aid training with CPR (Level C) from a recognized organization and submit the certificate to their Child and Family Services authority or delegated agency.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Alberta for personal, childcare-licensing and employer purposes, with the practical portion of CSA levels normally completed in person (blended format accepted).
